What does happiness mean to you and do you feel it in your relationships?

Dada Vaswani, spiritual leader, acclaimed writer and humanitarian sees it like this:

Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality, it is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy. If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy. If you have everything the world can give, pleasure, possessions, power, but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy

Such a beautiful quote and so wise. Dada Vaswani made it his mission to spread love and peace across the world, through his voice and his writing. He died at the age of 99 on 12th July 2018.

Let’s break this down so we really understand what Dada Vaswani was telling the world and maybe even try to use what we find, to bring greater happiness to ourselves and our relationships

“Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality, it is a state of mind”.

As a love and relationship coach, I strongly believe we need to find our own self-worth and be happy within ourselves as we enter the world of love and relationships.

We need to listen to our own heart, define our own values and be comfortable in our own skin. We then are with or choose our partner from a fullness of heart rather than from a hungry one.

This doesn’t mean we don’t surround ourselves with happy people, it means we bring our own happiness and self-belief to the party.

We’ve all heard the expression “If you can’t love yourself, you can’t love someone else”, well, it really is very true.  To truly love someone, you really do need to love yourself first.

“If your mind is at peace, you are happy”.

As a coach on an elegant process called Conscious Uncoupling, I truly believe you need to put your mind at peace by letting go of the traumas of your past.

We can’t be truly happy with a mind full of conflicting emotions, we need to work our way through our anxieties and dispirited states of mind.  We may have residual feelings, shadows of previous heartache, or we may be feeling trapped inside in these unsettling times.

There are many ways to find your own peace, perhaps spending time with nature, taking exercise, or even just focusing your mind on something beautiful like a painting or a piece of music

Mindfulness meditation can be a wonderful step towards clearing and healing the mind, I’d love you to try my free meditation podcast, which you will find here. It will help you tune into both your feelings and needs and strengthen your presence in yourself and the world.

“If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy”.

We don’t have to rely on possessions, power and other people to be truly happy, it is possible to find happiness and a lifetime of love with just a peaceful mind.

Many of us often feel disappointed because of high expectations and we tend to lose sight of what we already have.  Gratitude lifts our spirit.  Ask yourself “what am I grateful for in myself, others and life?” Letting go of feelings of lack and focusing on what brings you satisfaction, joy and comfort, you will be amazed at how many things you can feel blessed for.  Our gratitude practice really can lighten our hearts and enable us to live more fully and freely.

I’m not suggesting that we all go and find a life of solitude without a penny to our name. We need the good things that support us and nourish us, in fact we need abundance to be free to be creative and give our gifts and contribution to life.  A few minutes alone every day to focus on gratitude and your feelings and needs, is a brilliant first step to finding inner peace and open your heart to love.
